According to Microsoft, we may be getting a new PlayStation 5 console in a couple of months. Microsoft claim that Sony are working on a slim model of PlayStation 5 and could release one later this year for a price of $399.99.
If you're wondering why would Microsoft share this news, well, the info comes from the official documents used in the FTC v Microsoft hearing, where PlayStation 5 Slim is mentioned in the following context on page 45 of the document:
"PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point."
That's about everything that we know about PlayStation 5 Slim at this point, as Microsoft's document does not reveal any additional details. The console is probably coming sometime during Holiday 2023, as Sony will want to use that period of the year to boost sales.
We've also seen reports of a price cut for the current PlayStation 5 console model, which suggests that the company is trying to clear out the stock before they ship the new version.
Keep in mind that the price could change until launch. Sony will probably look at the reactions of fans online, now that the console leaked, and possibly rise or lower the price to make the console more appealing.
And obviously, you should take all unofficial details with a grain of salt, as Sony are yet to announce plans for a new PS5 console.
