In less than a week, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see notable price increases. Sony has officially declared that, beginning on September 6, the cost of 12-month subscriptions across all three PlayStation Plus categories will go up.
Presently, 12-month subscriptions for PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium are priced at $59.99, $99.99, and $119.99, respectively.
After September 6, these prices will surge to $79.99 for PS Plus Essential (a $20 increase), $134.99 for PS Plus Extra (a $35 increase), and $159.99 for PS Plus Premium (a $40 increase).
Reason Behind the Price Adjustment
- According to Adam Michel, Director of Content Acquisition and Operations at PlayStation, this price adjustment is intended to sustain the delivery of high-quality games and added-value benefits through PlayStation Plus subscriptions.
- The new 12-month subscription prices will still offer a discount when compared to the cost of purchasing 1-month or 3-month subscriptions over a 12-month period.
Impact on Current Subscribers
- The price changes for existing 12-month subscribers will not be applied until November 6.
- Subscribers renewing their subscriptions after this date will be subject to the revised prices.
A Trend in Subscription Service Price Adjustments
- This move by Sony follows a trend where subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from Microsoft saw price increases in various regions earlier this year.
Sony aims to provide a continued high-quality experience to PlayStation Plus users while adjusting subscription costs accordingly.
