FTC v Microsoft hearing has revealed a bunch of exclusive and interesting information about upcoming titles, including The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda's next fantasy RPG, which is coming after Starfield.
The most recent information about the games comes from Microsoft's lawyers, who accidentally revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is targeting a 2026 release date, which is much sooner than we previously expected.
"There are two Elder Scrolls games, one is online called Elder Scrolls Online — that is a multiplayer game, it is on PlayStation today. The game he’s talking about is Elder Scrolls 16... the projected release is 2026 as a single-player game," the lawyers said as reported by the Verge.
A couple of days ago, Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer revealed that the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 will be a long one, confirming that the game is "five plus years away" which doesn't really line up with the claim from the lawyers.
If you ask us, the 2026 release date is highly unlikely as Bethesda are still fully focused on Starfield and will only start pre-production on The Elder Scrolls 6 once they have wrapped up the work on their sci-fi RPG.
On top of this, Bethesda usually take their time when developing their big RPGs so don't get your hopes that The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming in 2026. We'd put our money on 2028 as a more realistic date, which would be just in time for the next Xbox console.
FTC v Microsoft hearing also revealed that Microsoft Gaming executives already decided that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, meaning it's coming to Xbox consoles and PC.
