Overwatch 2 recently shared updates on character reworks for heroes like Cassidy and Reaper and hinted at changes for Mercy, Symmetra, and Lifeweaver. While some adjustments are imminent, others may not arrive until Season 11 or beyond.
In a recent AMA, Blizzard developers addressed fan questions, mainly about hero balance, health, and healing changes. The confirmed reworks include modifications to Cassidy and Reaper.
Blizzard further detailed these updates and other forthcoming changes. Cassidy's Magnetic Grenade will transform into a short-ranged hindering explosive in Season 11.
Reaper's rework will involve changes to Shadow Step and other buffs that don't enhance his tank-killing abilities. Roadhog's survivability will be reduced with nerfs to Take a Breather and Whole Hog starting May 24.
All Upcoming Hero Changes in Overwatch 2
Here are all the changes:
Confirmed Changes:
- Cassidy: Magnetic Grenade will no longer stick to targets, changing in Season 11.
- Reaper: Major rework to Shadow Step, plus other buffs not aimed at making him a "Tank Buster."
- Roadhog: Nerfs to Take a Breather and Whole Hog, effective May 24.
Unconfirmed Changes:
- Lifeweaver: Adjustments to ease switching between healing and damage, and encouraging both the healer and allies to use Petal Platform.
- Mercy: Enhancements focused on increasing her movement capabilities.
- Symmetra: Improvements to her frontline presence, potentially through increased survivability or beam damage.
Passive Changes:
Hanzo: Adjustments to the health pools of evasive, high-damage heroes, putting them within Hanzo's one-shot range.
Besides these confirmed updates, potential changes are being considered. For Lifeweaver, the developers are exploring ways to reduce the difficulty of switching between offense and defense and to make Petal Platform more beneficial for allies.
Mercy may receive buffs to her mobility, while Symmetra could see enhancements to her survivability or damage to bolster her frontline role. Hanzo might indirectly benefit from health pool reductions in high-damage heroes, bringing them back into his headshot range.
