On March 12, Overwatch 2 rolled out its mid-Season 9 patch. While not as extensive as the initial patch at the start of the season, this significant update brought buffs to nearly half of the roster of playable heroes.
In the latest update, Blizzard has reverted some of the adjustments made to three specific characters. Mauga, Sombra, and Symmetra received nerfs that partially reversed the buffs they had received in the previous week.
These buffs had inadvertently made the heroes overly dominant, particularly Mauga, who has a history of exerting significant influence over Overwatch 2 matches. The aim of these adjustments is to restore balance to the game.
So here are the updates made to this hotfix:
All changes to Tank Heroes
Mauga
- Mauga's base health decreased from 400 to 375.
- His cardiac overdrive's no longer fills overhealth on activation.
- His cardiac overdrive's duration increased from 4 to 5 seconds.
- His cardiac overdrive's cooldown increased from 10 to 12 seconds.
Mauga's Cardiac Overdrive changes from the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 9 patch have been completely reverted, and he also saw a slight reduction in health. However, the damage bonus to his Stomp ability has been retained.
All changes to Damage Heroes
Sombra
- Her EMP's ultimate cost was increased by 8%
Developer Comments: "Virus deals critical impact damage when it hits Hacked targets, and this change makes using it as a follow-up more compelling. The Translocator now destroys breakable objects, preventing Sombra from teleporting a shorter distance than expected."
Sombra's EMP Ultimate no longer benefits from the cost reduction introduced in the previous patch, but the buffs to her Virus and Translocator abilities still persist.
Symmetra
- Symmetra's Photon Projector's primary fire damage per second decreased from 65 to 60, scaling with all levels. The maximum damage per second is 180.
- Her Sentry Turret's health decreased from 50 to 40.
Symmetra had the buff to her Photo Projector undone, and her Sentry Turret's health was decreased from 50 to 40, although it's still 10 more than it was before the last patch. The damage to her Sentry Turret and the health of her Teleporter remain unchanged.
With season 10 around the horizon, the developers are paying extra attention to all the heroes and how they are performing. Hopefully, with these changes, the meta will finally reach a healthy state before the new season begins.
