NetEase Games and Bungie today announced a full-fledged free-to-play mobile game set in the Destiny universe called Destiny: Rising.
The game will be set after "The Collapse" event in Destiny, allowing players to explore never-before-seen locations in the Destiny franchise like Haven Sanctuary, the ancient metro of Jiangshi and Red Sea Rift, while enjoying a brand new Destiny story.
Destiny: Rising will be an RPG shooter similar to the console and PC version of Destiny so expect plenty of loot to collect, powerful skills to unlock and of course, a never-ending grind.
Destiny: Rising gameplay details
The announcement press release is packed with details, revealing that the game will feature a variety of playable heroes, a shared world and a large selection of game modes like co-op, multiplayer and single-player.
NetEase state that players can also look forward to beloved game modes familiar to Destiny fans such as campaign missions and six-player co-op strikes as well as all-new PVE and PVP experiences that will introduce new ways to play Destiny.
We also got to see the first gameplay footage a digital direct showcase where the dev team talked about some of the features and key development insights. From what the team shared in the video, we know that Destiny: Rising will be playable in both first and third-person mode with touchscreen and controller support.
For those of you who enjoy playing with a group of people, the game will have clans, casual party game modes, customisable shared spaces and more.
Destiny: Rising release date and alpha sign-up
Destiny: Rising is coming to iOS and Android mobile devices but it does not have a release date at the moment. The first closed alpha test is scheduled for November 1, 2024, though, so it's safe to assume that 2025 could be the target release window.
To be fair, judging by the gameplay trailer and everything that NetEase shared, we're looking at a very exciting release that could attract a large number of players, especially if the monetisation doesn't end up being too agressive, which usually ends up being the case with these fre-to-play mobile titles.
