Bungie reportedly had Escape From Tarkov streamers play their upcoming shooter Marathon and none of them seemed interested in the game.

Bungie are having a rough couple of days. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that over 100 developers were laid off from the now PlayStation-owned studio and that upcoming projects, including the recently revealed Marathon, have suffered significant delays internally.

Today, we have more bad news regarding Bungie, who reportedly hosted a Marathon gameplay summit a couple of months ago, to gather feedback from the players on the gameplay systems and overall design of the game.

The report comes from Destiny YouTuber Aztecross who claims that attendees were mostly Escape From Tarkov players. When Bungie asked them if they would play the game if it came out tomorrow, not a single attendee raised their hand.

Aztecross also states that Bungie initially designed Marathon as a battle-royale game but at some point during development, they decided to switch to the extraction-looter shooter genre, which should appeal more to Escape From Tarkov players.

Unfortunately for Bungie, Tarkov fans did not like the game at all, which is very concerning, to say the least. Marathon is supposed to be Bungie's next big thing, a game to kick off the new era for multiplayer shooters but it seems that there's still plenty of work to be done, hence the delay.

Marathon was scheduled to launch sometime in 2024 but with the recent layoffs and negative feedback from the players, 2025 is now a more realistic release date.

It will certainly be interesting to see first Marathon gameplay and how the game actually works and improves on the extraction genre. Hopefully, Bungie will use the additional time to come up with interesting concepts for Marathon and deliver a unique, fun and fair experience.

Marathon does not have an official release date at the moment, but we know it's coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
