Chinese gaming company NetEase have today announced that they've established a brand new AAA studio in Barcelona and Seattle called Anchor Point Studios.

NetEase are expanding into Europe and the United States by opening a new game development studio in Barcelona, Spain and Seattle, United States. The new studio is called Anchor Point and will be working on AAA action-adventure games that offer "social and multiplayer experiences."

Anchor Point Studios is founded by Paul Ehreth, a games industry veteran who worked on titles such as Control and Halo . The rest of the team consists of head of operations Pere Torrents and other colleagues with decades of combined experience in the industry and whose past work includes games such as Halo, Ghost of Tsushima , Red Dead Redemption 2 , and The Division .

The studio will be working on games for console and PC and according to the press release, "push the boundaries of entertainment and bring elements of surprise into the gameplay."

The main studio hub will be in Spain but NetEase say they will be hiring up to 100 people across Europe and North America including developers, technical artists and designers.

Anchor Point Games founder Paul Ehreth said the team are grateful to NetEase for giving them the creative freedom and resources to build an "interconnected world that will expand beyond games and reach into other mediums as well."

NetEase Games' Simon Zhu said Anchor Point Studios are reaching for the stars and as their parent company, NetEase will do everything to help them get there.

All in all, it does seem like both NetEase and Anchor Point are excited by the news. We are hopeful that we'll get to see some concept art or cinematic trailer for the project soon, as it does sound pretty intriguing when the devs mention an interconnected world and action adventure with multiplayer.
