In a statement published recently, Game Freak, the developer behind the Pokemon game series, confirmed that a major data breach has indeed taken place, resulting in huge amounts of sensitive material for future games being stolen and leaked online.
The hack, carried out earlier this year, has revealed a wide range of sensitive and confidential material, including source code for a number of older Pokemon games, such as Pokemon Black and White 2 and Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver titles.
The breach also revealed tantalizing information regarding future projects. Among several titles that were leaked, a supposed title codenamed "Ikkaku" reportedly is in its last stages of development and when it comes out, the game should be called "Pokémon Legends: Z-A".
Besides these, the leak suggests the next major installment of Pokémon - what fans have colloquially termed "Gen 10". This new title, codenamed Gaia, is said to be in development for the next-generation Nintendo console, speculated to be the new Nintendo Switch 2.
Furthermore, the most interesting of all the details leaked is the development of a Pokemon MMO game, currently codenamed Synapse. It's said to be in development by Game Freak in collaboration with the studio that remade Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games - ILCA.
In the end, it's important that Game Freak has now issued an official statement confirming the hack and accepting responsibility for it, as instead of game data, personal information belonging to over 2,500 current and former employees has been compromised as well.
