The map in League of Legends, known as Summoner's Rift, has remained largely unchanged for over a decade. While minor updates and additions have occurred, the fundamental layout of the map has been consistent.
However, recent leaks suggest significant potential changes to Summoner's Rift, which could impact gameplay dynamics and strategies.
Although these changes are from the Public Beta Environment (PBE) and not finalized, they offer intriguing insights into potential future gameplay and Riot's vision of the new map.
River Changes
The leaked images suggest a notably wider river in the mid-lane area and alongside the bushes. A broader river could have profound implications for gameplay. It would provide additional space for skirmishes, particularly around the scuttle crab spawn, potentially making early-game interactions more complex.
This adjustment might encourage more river-based team fights, influencing rune choices like Waterwalking and the tactics of champions such as Qiyana. Additionally, wider river skirmishes could affect vision control by support players and alter the dynamics of champions with area-of-effect abilities.
Pathing to Botlane
An interesting observation is the potential blockage of the path from the mid-lane to the blue buff area on the right side. While it's uncertain if this change affects both blue and red sides, it could impact mid-laners' pathing to these objectives.
Closing this path could influence jungle pathing and ganking strategies, potentially reducing early-game jungle impact on the bottom lane. The wider river also grants solo laners and junglers more skirmishing opportunities on the top side, possibly affecting early-game interactions in mid and top lanes.
Removing Baron Pit
The most significant revelation is the potential removal of the Baron pit. In the leaked images, the pit is replaced with open land. This alteration has profound implications, as the Baron pit is a central objective in the mid to late game.
Many key game-defining moments, including vision control, skirmishes, and 5v5 fights, revolve around the Baron pit. If indeed removed, the core gameplay in League of Legends could transform. While there's a chance the Baron might be relocated, placing both major objectives (Baron and Dragon) on the same side of the map could create an unusual dynamic.
This change could dramatically shift the competitive landscape of League of Legends.
