League of Legends World Championship 2024 breaks Play-In viewership records

LoL Worlds 2023 hasn't even commenced the big part of the tournament and it's already breaking records.

When an event is watched by 1.3 million people concurrently, one would think you are talking about finals or semifinals but in the case of League of Legends World Championship 2023, it happened before the main event began.

Namely, the massive number of viewers happened during the fantastic best-of-five series between PSG and BDS, during which they fought for the last remaining spot on the main event.

Considering that French fandom is quite big in League of Legends, high numbers were expected but it was hard to imagine so many. It could also be attributed to Riot Games' change in format for both the Play-In and main event.

To prove that it's not just about the popularity of these two teams, there is the matchup of GAM vs LOUD, which didn't have such high stakes. It peaked at around one million concurrent viewers, although in this case, it could be about local popularity since they are the most well-known teams in VCS and LATAM regions, respectively.

You can bet the stands will be filled at Worlds 2023

With the viewership numbers approaching those of the main event at MSI 2023 even before Worlds 2023 kicked off in full gear, it is safe to assume the subsequent matches will attract even more fans to their screens to witness history in the making.

We are not using hyperbole here as this is the first LoL World Championship where the Swiss system is utilised instead of groups, marking a historical change in this particular esport.
