There is no player more associated with the professional League of Legends team - Gen.G, as the Ruler. The 23-year-old joined Gen.G in 2017 after the organization, then known as KSV eSports, bought the Samsung Galaxy roster. As Gen.G struggled to achieve domestic success, Ruler was the only one loyal to the team.
However, 2022 seemed to be Gen.G's year. They formed a lineup around Ruler once again, but this time it was one that critics considered a real contender.
In the Summer of 2022, Gen.G eventually won their first LCK title. It was also Ruler's first domestic championship; despite having a Riot Games Worlds title, he had never won the LCK trophy.
Despite having the option to extend, Ruler asked Gen.G to allow him to test free agency. Ruler’s decision adds to an unexpectedly competitive AD Carry market in the LCK.
Ruler and EDG AD Carry Park “Viper” Do-Hyeon, who is reportedly looking to return to the LCK, will be the offseason’s best prospects. Gen.G will now start the process of finding the best replacement for their iconic AD carry.
Gen.G entered Worlds 2022 as the tournament's betting favorite. That prediction stayed true until the playoffs when Gen.G defeated DWG KIA in a dramatic five-game series in the quarterfinals.
This was followed by a 3-1 loss against eventual champions DRX in the semifinals. Ruler now wants to explore all of his options hoping that he will find the right fit for him.
