In the best five-game series this year, Gen.G survived a reverse attempt in the League of Legends Worlds 2022 quarterfinals! The LCK champions hold off the attack from Damwon KIA to secure their spot in the semifinals.
Every best-of series between these two teams in 2022 went the distance. Gen.G won all four best-of-three regular season matches 2-1, and they also won their Spring Split playoff series 3-2. The same happened in the League of Legends World 2022 championship.
The frosting on the five-game cake was that neither team's players shied away from the most dependable approach to demonstrate that their own talent is a force to be reckoned with: winning on unexpected picks. After Riot buffed Kayn, he became Canyon's go-to pick in these series!
The series was on the way to being one of the closest 3-0’s in recent memory. But, ShowMaker took this quarterfinal to game five! He had incredible series, especially in games three and four where he picked Swain/LeBlanc and dominated the rift!
Gen.G banned Canyon’s Kayn in games two and four, so naturally, with the champion open, Canyon locked it in for Game 5! ShowMaker, in another comfort pick move, picked Syndra.
On top of all that, Deokdam was able to grab Aphelios yet again. Peanut was the worst jungler in these series, but his strong mind pushed GenG to victory.
The match between Gen.G and Damwon Kia will be remembered as one of the greatest on any international platform. DK came uncomfortably close to stealing the win from Gen.G, but the LCK champion came through when it counted.
Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk proved why he is considered the best ADC in the world right now. His dominant performance helped Gen.G make it to the finish line.
