League of Legends Esports and Riot Games are going to add an all-new international tournament to its competitive calendar, First Stand, which will make its way in March 2025.
Riot Games outed some key details around format, date, and location, looking really innovative for the season's lineup thus far-geared toward bringing new challenges to the global stage.
Format: Fearless Draft
First Stand introduces a new format-a thing it calls Fearless Draft-a draft strategy that shakes the very foundations when adding in the following twist.
Champion Lockouts: Once a champion is selected, that champion cannot be taken up by either team for the rest of the series. The format does take much versatility into account, moreover.
Series Diversity Bo3 and Bo5 series force a team to lean on the diverse champion pool, which cannot be that easily predicted with fresh picks and strategies.
The first splits of the major regional leagues will be instituting the Fearless Draft to help the players get accustomed. The new structure in drafting could very well make for a series of unexpected champion picks, offering new sights for fans.
Date, venue and qualified teams
First Stand will take place at LoL Park in Seoul, Korea from March 10-16, 2025.
The smaller venue has polarized the fandom's reaction to this set, but it is going to be a hot and electric environment as teams go head-to-head for international glory.
