Grand Theft Auto 5 is a game that depicts violence; that's nothing new, and not just this game, but all GTA titles that were released up until now. Some governments are stricter than the others; that's true as well. In Saudi Arabia, where the laws are known to be very strict, GTA 5 was a banned game, and if you had an account registered in this country, Grand Theft Auto 5 was not available for purchase.
According to some rumours, the Saudi government banned around 50 games for the depiction of violence, and GTA 5 joined this list, but oddly enough, not when it was released but five years later, in 2018. Those rumours claimed that the Saudi government banned those games because two children committed suicide after playing an online game. Of course, the agency that deals with those problems in the Saudi government never confirmed those claims.
However, after years of waiting, it seems the GTA fans in this Middle Eastern kingdom will finally be able to play one of the most popular games in the last two decades without any restrictions because, according to a leaker that knows well everything related to GTA games, Ben, Grand Theft Auto 5 will leave this restricted list in Saudi Arabia very soon.
According to Ben, Grand Theft Auto 5 will be available for purchase in Saudi Arabia sometime during July already, but with a small catch. GTA 5 will be rated 21+ in this country, meaning if you want to play this game, you'll have to be at least three years older than it is the case in almost every other country in the world, where GTA 5 is rated as an 18+ game.
Removing Grand Theft Auto from the banned list in Saudi Arabia might mean a lot for the upcoming GTA 6, which can become available from day one in this country. This, of course, isn't confirmed yet, but the Saudi fans can hope that it will be the case; at least the hope doesn't cost a thing.
