God of War Ragnarok is officially getting a first post-launch DLC called Valhalla, Sony announced at The Game Awards show last night. The DLC is completely free of charge and it arrives on PlayStation 5 on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
Valhalla serves as an epilogue to Ragnarok so we suggest you complete the main story before diving into this fresh content, which includes a brand-new rogue-lite mode. In this new mode, players will get to play as Kratos as he "overcomes trials and echoes of his past" which actually means beasts from the original games are included in the mode.
The gameplay loop consists of fighting groups of enemies, gaining resources and then spending them on temporary and permanent rewards. There's also new armour and five difficulty levels with different rewards. The higher the difficulty level, the better the rewards.
The devs say that Kratos will have access to all his weaponry and fully upgraded skill trees at all times, but must commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage for each attempt.
As you beat the trials, you'll have to choose between Glyps for which Stats to upgrade, various Perks, Runics and more, which can result in some interesting playthroughs, depending on your choices.
It's a pretty awesome update to be honest, especially since it's not going to cost you a single penny. You can check out the gameplay trailer of God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC for more details on this major update.
