CD Projekt Red's upcoming game, tentatively titled "The Witcher 4" and internally known as 'Polaris,' is generating considerable excitement among fans. In a recent interview with game director Sebastian Kalemb, there's a tantalising hint that Geralt of Rivia, the iconic protagonist from the previous Witcher titles, will make a return. However, it remains uncertain whether Geralt will take centre stage as the main character in this new installment.
The game is being crafted with both new and veteran players in mind, aiming to offer an accessible entry point for newcomers while still satisfying long-time fans of the franchise. Referred to as 'Polaris,' the project is described as ambitious and is set to surpass its predecessors in scale and scope. Reportedly, over half of CD Projekt Red's developers are dedicated to working on this monumental game, underscoring the significance and scale of the project.
Sebastian Kalemb emphasised in the interview that Geralt of Rivia will play a role in the upcoming game; however, it's clarified that "The Witcher 4" is not intended to be a reboot of the franchise that reached its peak with the acclaimed "The Witcher 3" in 2015. Instead, it's poised to build upon the existing lore and narrative, making it accessible for those new to the series while maintaining a connection to the established Witcher universe.
Sebastian Kalemb said in the interview:
"The Witcher 4 won’t be out for some years, and it’ll be a long time since the previous one, so we cannot just target the audience already fond of the saga. We must also build a new community. On that note, I believe I can say it’ll be an excellent entry point for many players, without forgetting the long-time fans who still wish to follow Geralt’s adventures."
As the game is still in development, critical details such as Geralt's role and the voice actor for the character remain undisclosed. Fans are left eagerly anticipating further announcements and updates regarding the highly anticipated "The Witcher 4," which is shaping up to be a special addition to the beloved Witcher series.
