Set 300 years after the events of the original game, Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new hero named Atsu and promises a different storyline and gameplay changes.

During the latest State of Play presentation, Sony and Sucker Punch revealed Ghost of Yōtei, the long-awaited sequel to the fan favorite Ghost of Tsushima.

The new game takes place 300 years after the developments in the original and contains a new hero, Atsu; it promises to follow a different set of storytelling and gameplay changes.

One of the major shifts in Ghost of Yōtei comes with how much control players will be given over the same game's narrative. The developers have said in an interview conducted by the New York Times that they want to give players "greater control" over the storyline compared to its first counterpart.

While Ghost of Tsushima was able to have some choices within it mechanically, Ghost of Yōtei tacks those in, giving players more control over how the protagonist's journey goes.

Creative Director Jason Connell also acknowledged a common criticism of open world games: a job-like repetition of some activities. In Ghost of Tsushima, players were often tasked with either following golden birds or hunting foxes, an activity that many found was redundant by the end of it.

This is another trap, Connell said, the team tries to avoid with Ghost of Yōtei. One of the challenges with open-world games is the tendency to fall into repetitive gameplay loops," Connell said.

He also said that the team is focused on balancing against that by offering unique experiences. More dynamic storytelling, emphasizing a new way of looking at open-world exploration, Ghost of Yōtei seems to come together in building upon the solid foundation its predecessor left, while ironing out some of its weaknesses.

Ghost of Tsushima fans will no doubt be very excited for the adventure that awaits them when it releases.
