Activision Blizzard have announced that yet another familiar face is following their former CEO and president Mike Morhaime out the door. This time, we're talking about Blizzard's co-founder and Chief Development Officer (CDO) Frank Pearce.

Pearce has been with the company from day one, back when they were called Silicon & Synapse, being part Blizzard's founding trio together with Morhaime and Allen Adham.

"My journey as part of the Blizzard community began over 28 years ago. Allen offered me an opportunity to join him and Mike in their adventure and dream to make video games", Pearce said. "Looking back, I know how incredibly fortunate I was to have been a part of what Blizzard has become."

He said Blizzard have been guided by a well-intentioned purpose of making games they liked playing, even though today it's more about bringing people together through entertainment.

Pearce wrote that he is leaving to dedicate time to things that have suffered at the expense of his passion for video games, like playing an instrument and leading an active outdoor life. Aah, the great outdoors, ba dum-tss.

"Everything I have done at Blizzard has been driven by my passion. I have worked very hard and very passionately for a very long time. Now it is time for me to reflect and be thoughtful about what comes next", he said.

Note that despite Pearce's executive status, he's one of those execs whose resume includes programming work on absolute classics like The Lost Vikings, Diablo and Starcraft, so it's a huge loss in more than one way.

He stressed that the company is in good hands and reminded that he will forever be part of Blizzard's family, urging players to uphold the company's values and be kind and respectful to other fans.

Blizzard's president J. Allen Brack said that Pearce is one his heroes as well as friends, whose role in making Blizzard what they are cannot be overstated.

"Like many of us, Frank is an introvert. Thus many of you haven’t seen a lot of him publicly, nor seen the deep impact he’s had on Blizzard, and on the culture specifically. But Frank has been here from the beginning, building and expanding the foundation and championing the values behind everything Blizzard does. Blizzard is better because of Frank Pearce", Brack said.
