It is nothing new that Ubisoft, to put it mildly, uses some great games, movies or TV shows as inspiration for their games. Remember Assassin's Creed: Valhalla? That game heavily borrowed from History Channel's TV show, Viking. And that's not an isolated case; on a smaller or larger scale, almost every Ubisoft's game takes "inspiration" from some highly acclaimed titles.
After the latest trailer that officially announced Assassin's Creed: Shadows, former Assassin's Creed: Red, many fans on the internet started drawing comparisons with Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch's ultra popular action RPG from 2019, that tells a similar tale about rogue samurai.
One of the fans on the official Ghost of Tsushima subreddit went step further and took screenshots from the Assassin's Creed: Shadows trailer and compared them with the screenshots from Ghost of Tsushima trailer. The results are amazing and hilarious at the same time. It seems like Ubisoft didn't even bother to hide the similarities because some of the screens look like clean copy-and-paste work.
Of course, we wouldn't bother at all if Ubisoft decided to take inspiration from Ghost of Tsushima in terms of gameplay and visuals, because not so many games can be compared to it in those terms; Ghost of Tsushima looks and plays amazing, even for the game that came out five years ago. Following Sony's tradition of bringing their exclusives to PC, Ghost of Tsushima is set to be released today, May 16, and it remains to be seen how it will be received.
Regarding Assassin's Creed: Shadows, we've seen that Ubisoft can grow and listen to the wishes of their fans. As a result, the latest Assassins Creed: Mirage was a way different game than its predecessors, with the return of stealth mechanics and some features that made this franchise so adored among the fans. Of course, we cannot expect Assassin's Creed: Shadows to be nothing like Mirage; it will be a way bigger game, but will Ubisoft learn from their mistakes and avoid the fate of the disaster called Assassin's Creed: Valhalla? It remains to be seen.
