Yuka Kitamura, the legendary composer who worked on soundtracks for Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and other From Software games, has left the Japanese studio.

One of the world's most prominent video game music composers, Yuka Kitamura, has announced that she is leaving From Software to work as a freelance artist. Yuka Kitamura is best known for her incredible and award-winning work on From Software's action RPGs like Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and more.

In a post on X, Kitamura thanked the fans for their continued support and confirmed that she is leaving From Software to express herself in game music through various genres.

"I have decided to leave FromSoftware, the company I worked for, and to start working new as a freelance composer in this August. I would like to continue to express myself in game music through various genres of music. I hope you will look forward to my music in the future," Kitamura wrote.

Kitamura's first work for From Software was on Armored Core: Verdict day in 2013. Since then, she worked as a composer on pretty much every From Software release including DLC releases. Kitamura is considered as one of the greatest video game music composers in the world so it will certainly be interesting to see where she goes next.

It's safe to say that this is bitter-sweet news for all fans of her breathtaking music as she will no longer work for From Software but on the other hand, the possibilities are endless for Kitamura who can now work on all sorts of video games including horrors, shooters and more.

From Software
Elden Ring now features ray-tracing across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S but the implementation is pretty poor
The soundtracks in From Software games certainly bring a lot of tension and atmosphere to combat and exploration, respectively
As for From Software, it remains to be seen who becomes the studio's main composer. Shoi Miyazawa and Tai Tomisawa and Tsukasa Saitoh are some of the composers who worked on previous From Software games so it's possible we see some of them working on music for future From Software projects.
