EA Sports has revealed the first FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive, showcasing major gameplay changes, manual defending improvements, smarter attacking runs, revamped passing mechanics, and overhauled set pieces ahead of launch.

EA Sports has officially launched development of EA Sports FC 27 with the first Gameplay Deep Dive, showcasing extensive updates to gameplay systems.

Community desire for less automation within the game has been listened to by the developers, leading to significant changes that empower players within defending, attacking, passing, and set pieces.

Gilliard Lopes, Principal Gameplay Designer at EA, says that FC 27 aims to hand control back to players during crucial moments instead of AI doing things on the player’s behalf. These large-scale changes refine football gameplay to better reward skillful play and player decision making on the field.

Defending has received plenty of attention during development. Defenders will no longer automatically attempt to tackle opponents who dribble past them, instead playing up their support positioning to strengthen defensive shape. Successful defending will be more rewarding than ever, as AI defenders have been enhanced to move into position faster while covering more ground with tackles and interceptions.

Set pieces are becoming much more interactive, starting with corners. Before the ball is even kicked, players can adjust their attackers’ positions to ambush the box. Manually attacking space during a corner becomes much more viable, as players can utilize new mechanics like Avoidance to cut through defenders or Shield to maintain position.

Crossing has been made more player-dependent as well, with passes now lacking the largely automatic targeting system of years past.Players can now make attackers around the box smarter by implementing curved runs that intelligently adapt to space. With manual triggered runs like Curve Runs and Pass & Follow Runs, players can create unique attacking movements that weren’t possible before.

However, these runs won’t actively persist like they have in past games. If a player wants their teammates to continue running, they’ll need to manage this manually by triggering additional runs. Passing is a skillful task that requires even more precision in FC 27.

Ground and lofted through balls will rely heavily on where the player kicks the ball, instead of automatically powering the ball into open spaces. Dinked passes are now completely manual, tying into the game’s emphasis on competitive balance between attacking flair and defending.Improvements have been made to dribbling as well, allowing ball carriers with high Balance, Agility, and Dribbling stats to run offline while regaining their footing.

These new animations reward player ability by allowing some of the best dribblers in football to withstand strong tackles without immediately losing possession. You can find more information here.
