EA Sports FC 26 revamps its Clubs mode with Archetypes, new progression systems, live knockout tournaments, and support for multiple Clubs.

EA has announced a number of major Clubs mode changes coming to EA Sports FC 26. The developer recently released a comprehensive deep dive into Clubs for EA Sports FC 26, which detailed an extensive list of changes and additions coming to its Clubs mode.

This includes a brand new progression system called Archetypes that draw from real-life football inspirations, new live Rush tournaments, the addition of multiple club membership, and gameplay/presentation improvements.

Collectively, it’s clear that EA is looking to offer players more depth, options, and customization to their career progression, whether you’re a solo player or playing with a group of friends.

By offering more ways to level up your virtual pro and climb the ranks, EA Sports FC 26 is setting Clubs mode up as the definitive competitive and social destination for online football.

Archetypes Add Meaningful Progression and Variety

The new Archetype system is at the heart of this revamp.

Players will start by selecting one of 13 unique Archetypes, each tied to a particular role on the pitch:

  • 3 for Forwards
  • 4 for Midfielders
  • 4 for Defenders
  • 2 for Goalkeepers

Each archetype will have its own name and distinct playstyle, such as the Maestro Midfielder archetype, which offers the Tiki Taka Pinged Pass skill to provide midfielders more accuracy and control.

Archetypes themselves will also have an impact on your player, as they’ll not only provide different bonuses and abilities, but also unlock and track progression with Archetype XP (AXP) that you’ll earn while playing matches.

Earning AXP will depend on a number of factors, including the role you play during a match, in-game actions, and match type. Archetypes can be unlocked using Club Coins, FC Points, or Unlock consumables, and each will be able to be leveled up to level 50 from the start of the game.

Live Events, Club Flexibility and Competitive Gameplay

In addition to the progression system, FC 26 will also offer Club Rush tournaments. These are single-elimination bracket tournaments where players have a limited number of attempts to make it through four rounds. If a player loses a match, they have to start over.

This event structure will keep things highly competitive while rewarding consistent play.Players will be able to join up to three Clubs and freely switch between them through the game’s UI.

It’s a nice addition for those that like to mix things up and play in both competitive and non-competitive clubs.Other gameplay changes include the Be-A-Goalkeeper mode, which is receiving UI, camera, and audio updates to provide a more “fluid and natural play experience.”

The mode will also be available in Clubs Rush events.Competitive Gameplay will be enabled by default in Clubs, which EA has said is tuned for “responsiveness, less randomness, and a skill-based focus on player control.”
