By the looks of it, PlayStation 5 exclusivity does not hurt the sales of Stellar Blade in Japan as the game has passed 90,000 sold physical copies.

Shift Up's action adventure hit Stellar Blade has sold more physical copies than Capcom's RPG Dragon's Dogma 2 in Japan as reported by industry analyst Genki on social media X.

Stellar Blade managed to sell 91,099 boxed copies since April 26 launch while Capcom's title sold 83,751 copies since its release on March 7.

This is certainly an impressive achievement by Shift Up and their debut console title and it goes to show that console exclusivity doesn't necessarily always harm sales.

Obviously, Sony's aggressive marketing campaign increased the game's chances so it's safe to say that everyone did their homework for Stellar Blade, both the development team who made a cracking title and Sony who reached many players with their campaign.

Before its launch, Stellar Blade appeared on many billboards worldwide including in New York, Hong Kong, Seoul and other major cities.

In addition, Shift Up made a collab with South Korean signer BIBI to make a music video promoting the game and there's also the iconic chicken burger that PlayStation Australia launched to celebrate the release of the game.

And there's the game's main protagonist and her look which certainly gave the game a big boost across social media and various gaming forums. Gamers seem to really like good-looking female characters.

As for Dragon's Dogma 2, the game's launch issues probably didn't help. 30 FPS mode on consoles also wasn't popular among gamers and the lack of meaningful updates since the release is another factor that perhaps caused Dragon's Dogma 2 to sell fewer physical copies than Stellar Blade in Japan.

It is worth mentioning that we should not be looking at physical releases only as gamers prefer buying digital copies these days via PlayStation or Xbox stores. We also know that Dragon's Dogma 2 is a massive hit for Capcom, selling over 2.5 million copies so we doubt they will be too worried about the performance of physical sales in Japan.
