The creator of the Dragon Age series and head writer of the previous games commented on the reveal of the polarizing new sequel called Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Fan reactions to the recent BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay previews have been negative, to put it mildly. Neither the announcement itself nor the gameplay demonstration went over well and collected more than 100 and 200 thousand negative ratings on YouTube.
Fans did not like the tone of the game, the appearance of the characters, and the action direction in the gameplay, which in the previous games was tactically oriented.
In the minority there were those who liked what they saw, and among them was the creator of the series himself, David Gaider, who left BioWare in 2016.
Gaider was the main writer of the previous Dragon Age games, so he couldn't resist commenting on the first Dragon Age project on X, in the development of which he did not participate. Gaider wrote that he agreed that the first look at the game was not the best, but praised the gameplay demo.
“We're seeing a bit of story and tonally this feels a lot darker and closer to Dragon Age. Like I said, the trailers should be taken with a grain of salt and my opinion is that a lot of fans have a much easier time after this… The environment looks amazing. Point. If only we could do the same for Kirkwall or Val Royeaux. It's beautiful, it serves us breadth and tone, great job.” - David Gaider wrote and referred to controversial decisions in design.
“The character designs will take some getting used to, but the visual style of Dragon Age has changed with each game so it's nothing new. The combat is more action, without tactics, but it seems good. The style is not much different compared to Dragon Age 2. And it made me laugh to see the dialog box icons from Dragon Age 2 come back.” Gaider says.
