The game will feature large open spaces for players to roam through, such as ancient forests and wetland areas, allowing for free play and discovery.

In a gaming world where open-world design seems to be all anyone apparently cares about anymore, BioWare’s choice to make Dragon Age: The Veilguard mission-based, linear RPG doesn’t actually show any lack of ambition in the gameplay.

This design focuses more on a tightly focused and handcrafted narrative, but it doesn't take anything away from exploration. Most recently, BioWare conducted a Q&A session on Discord, where developers answered some of the concerns related to exploration within the game.

Although the main storyline of Veilguard is linear, the game itself will boast a variety of large open spaces which players can roam through as they please.

These will be things from an ancient forest, for example Arlathan Forest, to one vast wetland area, such as Hossberg Wetlands, where players can just wander in their own good time, finding places on their own terms.

What this means, in other words, is that while the story line moves within the gameplay, ample room will be there for free play as well as discovery.

Where Dragon Age: The Veilguard hopes to achieve a perfect balance is concerned with giving the player a little from both worlds: robust, richly narrative-driven coupled with the ability to explore.

Open areas strike a balancing act with the linearity of missions, where one can delve deeply into the world without feeling concerned by the storyline. With every snippet of The Veilguard BioWare reveals to the world, it becomes easier to understand that this game will be nothing if not very deep - an experience profoundly layered in rich storytelling tradition and exploration of consequential choices.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launches on October 31 for the tight narrative mixed with free-form explorers on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
