Xbox title Sea of Thieves was the best selling game on PlayStation 5 in May

Sony have officially revealed that Sea of Thieves was the best-selling game on PlayStation 5 in May 2024 in both the United States/Canada and Europe regions. They announced the news in their monthly blog post with the most downloaded games chart, which has Rare's swashbuckling adventure in firm number one.

Sea of Thieves managed to sell more than Madden NFL 24, GTA 5, F1 24 and Sony's recently launched live service title Helldivers 2. It's safe to say that Microsoft will be rubbing their hands with glee when looking at these charts.

Sea of Thieves is becoming increasingly popular on the PlayStation 5 platform

Another Xbox Game Studios game, Grounded, also managed to get on the charts, ranking at the 12th spot in Europe but it didn't appear on the US/Canada charts. Other Microsoft-owned IPs that charter are Fallout and Call of Duty. 

While the decision to put some of their games to PlayStation 5 wasn't received well by the Xbox community, it turns out that Microsoft knew what they were doing and that both Grounded and Sea of Thieves are doing great on PlayStation.

Microsoft also released Hi-Fi Rush on PlayStation 5 but that one didn't appear in the charts, which is expected given that this one is a single-player title, unlike the live-service multiplayer games like Sea of Thieves and Grounded.
