Dragon Age: The Veilguard is about to release its fresh gameplay footage, explaining how the combo system and Ultimates work together to learn the mechanics of the battlefield.
Just like the effect in the Mass Effect series, the combo system in The Veilguard is dependent on Primers and Detonators: you set up enemies by marking them with a Primer, then you use a Detonator to trigger the powerful effects, which results in increased damage.
For instance, Rook can activate their Crystallize Rune, which provides some crowd control and sets them as Primers. After that's done, Rook can then order his friend Lucanis to cast the spell Detonator, Eviscerate, on the now-primed group for large damage.
On top of that, these are combined with game-changing ultimate abilities that can change the tide of combat. One example of an Ultimate is Warden's Fire, where Champion rains a medley of fiery projectiles and finishes it off with a powerful meteor strike.
These combat options are especially useful in chaotic encounters that require strategy. The Ability Wheel allows players to pause the action and issue commands targeting enemies at distance or linking multiple attacks together.
Your choice of Specialization and playstyle will dictate your role in battle, whether that's soaking up damage, corralling mobs, or shattering enemy armor.
Dragon Age: Veilguard is scheduled for an October 31 release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and has previously been teased to offer combat that is involving and dynamic.
