Many players are reporting that retailer GameStop have contacted them with information about the cancellation of Doom Eternal Switch port. However, Bethesda have officially confirmed that the game is still pretty much underway.
Earlier today, some Reddit users reported that they got a call from local GameStop telling them that Doom Eternal Switch port has been cancelled. Apparently, GameStop contacted those who pre-ordered the game, offering them a refund or other solutions to the problem.
And judging by Bethesda's response, it looks like there is some truth to that. According to the official statement by the publisher, the physical release of the game will not happen which is probably the reason why GameStop contacted their customers.
Doom Eternal will arrive to Nintendo Switch but as a digital-only release and those who pre-ordered the physical edition will receive refunds. Bethesda say that you should contact your preferred retailer for more information if you are one of those who pre-ordered the boxed version. Here's their statement in full, courtesy of Source Gaming:
"While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders. Affected customers will receive refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information."
Doom Eternal does not have a release date for Nintendo Switch but the arrival on the hybrid console is imminent, as Bethesda confirmed.
Doom Eternal is officially out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
