This year's QuakeCon has provided us with a bunch of information on Id Software, Bethesda and Avalanche Studios' upcoming titles, with the latest news announcing Doom Eternal for Nintendo Switch as well. Release dates are still unknown.

Unfortunately, Bethesda have neither provided PC nor console launch dates, so it's uncertain whether the company will be going for a simultaneous launch on all platforms. Seeing as how Doom Eternal's predecessor launched on the Switch on 29 June 2018, eight months after the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version, it's possible that Nintendo will again be last to the party.

Either way though, Switch users can breathe a sigh of relief, since Doom Eternal promises to be a blast, no pun intended. QuakeCon has given us a first look at the and the response has been magnificent, quite rightfully so.

Having said that, Doom had equally as great reception at QuakeCon 2014 and E3 2015, even though the subsequent multiplayer beta seemingly disappointed. Nevertheless, id Software polished it up for launch and eventually struck a perfect balance of brutality and fun.

Doom Eternal now looks to have raised the bar even higher, both in the brutality and fun department. We're not sure whether Nintendo will particularly like it, seeing as how they usually steer clear of blood an gore. They did make a few concessions lately, perhaps most notably the last instalment of .

Either way, it's not like the name Doom Eternal sounds like a farming simulator. Coincidentally, some reviewers criticised Doom for being overly violent, prompting Bethesda's VP of global communications Pete Hines to state that "if you're not into violent, bloody games...Doom's probably not the game for you."

As we've already said, Bethesda didn't provide exact dates for launch but judging by the gameplay video, it's likely that we'll have to wait until sometime in 2019.

With id Software and Avalanche Studios busy around Rage 2, which launches in the first half of 2019, it's safe to assume Doom Eternal will come at a later date. Do treat this as an assumption, with all the mother of all you-know-what baggage.
