Bungie finally listened to the community's pleas and decided to get rid of one of the most hated mechanics in the Destiny franchise to date. It will have some lasting effects though.

Sunsetting was easily the worst thing to happen to Destiny 2 since it made players lose interest in acquiring new loot, in a looter shooter game. It just isn't the same when you get that fantastic roll on a weapon you were specifically farming for if you know it has an expiration date.

Well, starting with Season 14, this will no longer be the case as Bungie are removing sunsetting from both weapons and armour. That's it, folks, we made it, all those threads in Destiny 2 and Destiny the Game subreddits finally paid off - we get to keep our loot.

There will be some lasting effects from the sunsetting period though. The weapons that already reached the sunsetting stage by now will remain that way - their power cap will not be removed. In other words, things like the Mountaintop and Revoker will not be able to terrorise you in Trials or Iron Banner but they will still remain a nuisance in regular Crucible modes.

Normally, this has a bad side to it as well since some of the legitimately beloved weapons will remain obsolete. For example, my collection of Austringers will stay capped, unless Bungie reissues the weapon in the future.

The team is still looking into ways to forcibly shift meta and infusion caps are off the table now. This means they will likely be trying to implement some other way of changing the Guardians' loadouts but that won't happen before The Witch Queen expansion comes out.

I must admit, this is the first time I've been glad to see a release date delay.
