PvP players in Destiny 2 have been suffering since the launch of Beyond Light and the balance changes we've all been clamouring for are on the horizon.
Bungie's latest TWAB announced a bunch of significant Stasis nerfs that might cause Light subclasses to become viable again. That said, Stasis was in such an overpowered state that even after getting hit hard on June 3, 2021, it will undoubtedly still be a powerful choice in Crucible, regardless of the class.
One of the biggest changes is that Stasis will freeze Guardians for 1.35 seconds which is still substantial but much better than the previous five seconds. Supers are exempt from this rule.
Another change is that you will not be able to break out of frozen state by mashing the class ability button which sounds bad at first but it's also an improvement. Even when mashing the button these days, you are unlikely to break out of the ice in less than 1.35 seconds. On top of that, players often end up using their class ability on accident due to input buffer, which is another problem that will be eliminated with these changes. As for breaking out of Super freeze, does anyone even bother trying to survive that?
Furthermore, Stasis slow will mess with your aiming in a different manner. It will no longer ruin your accuracy so you will still be able to land shots but you will get more flinch when other Guardians shoot you. If you're fast on the trigger, you will still have a slight fighting chance.
More importantly, slow will no longer suppress your class ability or movement abilities, offering a chance to escape behind cover or survive otherwise until the effect wears out.
These are the most impactful changes but Bungie is nerfing much more of Stasis , all of which you can check out on the official blog post.
Overall, Stasis victims should feel like the icy powers are less oppressive in the future but slows and freezing in PvP as quick as Destiny 2's will always be powerful.
While the nerfs are undoubtedly welcome in PvP, it is a shame we had to wait six months and 25 days for Stasis to stop being so blatantly overpowered.
