Destiny 2 is currently suffering from a severe weapon imbalance and while Bungie will partially address the issue with the mid-season nerf of the IKELOS SMG, the change will be only a drop in the bucket of the PvP mess.
The bigger culprit here is The Immortal, the Aggressive Frame SMG that is a reward from Trials of Osiris and while pretty much anyone can obtain it, the fat remains that it's quite annoying to play monotone games where everyone carries the same weapon.
In case you feel like the weapon is not actually dominating various game modes, the data suggests otherwise.
For example, the weapon makes up a whopping 16.5 per cent of total kills in competitive PvP, if you sum up the Adept and regular version stats. Considering the vast arsenal of weapons available in Destiny 2, it is somewhat unfathomable that every sixth kill is made by the same SMG.
The situation is the same in Trials of Osiris, with the Adept version being the cause of nine per cent of all the kills, with the runner-up being the non-Adept The Immortal, with seven per cent of the total kills.
To put the dominance of the weapon in perspective, the third spot is taken by another Aggressive Frame SMG, the aforementioned IKELOS, but it only accounts for three per cent of the kills. That is roughly five times fewer kills than The Immortal or three times fewer than just the Adept version.
As it stands, the players will have to suffer a stale sandbox until the end of the season when the Aggressive Frame SMGs will get a nerf unless Bungie changes course and decides to defuse the situation before Season 2, which starts on May 23, 2023.
