It's not often that a developer cracks a joke that most businesspeople would dismiss for openly advertising another game - but hey, Obsidian are a top team and, as we found out, with a great sense of humour.
Seriously, if you didn't watch the trailer, you can check it out above, after which you can move into the second paragraph - we doubt anything you've read will lessen the impact of the joke.
There's no going about this - it takes a certain level of confidence in own craft, which Obsidian have, or should have, in abundance, to pull anything of this sort. I mean they literally advertised another game on prime time Xbox-vision, in order to crack a joke and tip the hat to one of the most anticipated games of 2020.
And they pulled it off, magnificently so, prompting the Cyberpunk 2077 team to respond with a tweet. They just tweeted "We see you #GroundedTheGame", which we suppose fits in with the smallest game of 2020 narrative. Obsidian responded with a "Game recognise game" tweet.
It's well worth saying that both teams are no strangers to good, harmless fun, but Obsidian and Grounded take the cake in this respect. Heck, we'd go as far as nominating them for the best video game joke of 2020, and there's no way that CD Projekt Red guys didn't die laughing themselves.
To make things even better, Grounded looks absolutely splendid itself, and it won't take long until you can make sure of that yourself. If you already haven't, that is.
Developed by Obsidian and published by Xbox Game Studios, Grounded launches in early access on July 28, 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Project Red launches a bit later, November 19, 2020.
