Earlier today, Sega officially announced the cancellation of Hyenas and a couple of other unannounced projects due to structural reforms at their European studios.
Following the news, Hyenas developer Creative Assembly released a statement, confirming that the cancellation of the project may result in layoffs. The UK-based studio say they have begun a redundancy consultation process in some areas of their UK operations.
"We have made the incredibly difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process in some areas of our UK operations, alongside ending development of Hyenas. This may, unfortunately, result in job losses," Creative Assembly write in the statement.
The studio added that they are sorry for the situation that will have a significant impact on their people, stating how they have always operated as a 'people-first' studio.
Creative Assembly confirmed they are doing everything they can to reallocate the developers into other available roles within the studio to minimise any job losses.
As for the ongoing projects, Creative Assembly did briefly mention that their commitment has not changed as they aim to deliver more incredible experiences to players for decades to come.
However, the studio is not yet ready to talk about their plans for the future so we'll have to wait a bit longer to see all the new games they are cooking.
