We've heard a metric tonne of rumours about this year's Call of Duty so far, but now it's officially been confirmed by Treyarch, who will be working on the shooter with Raven Software.
Treyarch broke the news via Twitter, where they said they can't wait to show what they have in store for Call of Duty enthusiasts. Seeing Raven Software involved is a huge plus too - you won't find many studios that can match their track record.
In fact, Call of Duty 2020 will be the first time that two studios are working on a CoD title since Modern Warfare 3. From what we've read from the studios, Raven are working as full-fledged partners in development, rather than a support studio - yet another plus.
In a recent Activision Blizzard earnings call, Activision president Rob Kostich spoke very highly of the work done thus far, and we're trying really hard not to get overhyped here.
"Now, as you heard on the call before, Treyarch and Raven are coming up with the next premium game, and [we are] obviously very excited about what they're working on, and we do think fans are gonna absolutely love it. The game looks incredible right now and internally, people are having a ton of fun playing across its campaign mode, as well as the online modes that the developers are very well known for. And so, all I can say in terms of timing is I suspect you'll be hearing more about this fairly soon", he said.
Treyarch's last work on the franchise was Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, whose lack of singleplayer campaign didn't do it any favours. Kostich stressed, however, that Call of Duty: Warzone has made the company rethink how, when and where to reveal the title.
