Call of Duty franchise has been a major success for the publisher Activision in 2020. Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War took the two top spots on the best selling games of 2020 by dollar sales.
Activision will be extremely happy with the sales of their last two Call of Duty games. The 2019 title Call of Duty Modern Warfare was a record-breaking title, becoming the best selling Call of Duty game of all time while the recent one - Black Ops Cold War - also sold millions of copies.
According to the latest sales report by gamesindustry.biz, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War are the two best selling games of 2020 in the United States by dollar sales. Black Ops Cold War took the top spot which is expected since it's a new game in the series but the performance of Modern Warfare is also quite impressive.
The duo managed to beat Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Madden NFL 21 and The Last of Us Part II. The rest of the top 10 list also includes Sony's new IP - Ghost of Tsushima - while Ubisoft can also be proud of their Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

One thing that you should keep in mind when looking at the data is the fact that these numbers do not include digital sales, only physical, which can be a bit misleading since game sales in today day and age are mostly digital.
Additionally, the report only includes sales from January 1 to November 30 so it's safe to say that the list would probably look different if the Christmas period was also included.
