While everyone's eyes were on Metal: Hellsinger promo material, a similar game named BPM: Bullets Per Minute snuck up and announced a September 2020 release date.
Rhythm shooters seem to be taking the stage as Metal: Hellsinger caught many eyes and ears during the recent marketing push. The game is slated for release in 2021 though and Awe Interactive beat it to the punch with their own rhythm shooter, BPM: Bullets Per Minute. which will release on September 15, 2020.
The premise is fairly similar as players are shooting up demonic creatures but there are some differences. For instance, the player character is a Valkyrie instead of being a demon and they are fighting forces of the underworld and not explicitly demons in hell.
BPM's gameplay loop will consist of shooting enemies, jumping over hazards and dodging incoming fire, all to the beat of the music playing in the background. You can even pat your gun and this seems to be in rhythm as well.
Reloading is another thing players need to do with the beat and different weapons will have different behaviour for both firing and reloading, which will play an important part in following the rhythm.
Another major difference between Metal: Hellsinger and BPM: Bullets Per Minute is that the former is more into heavy and thrash metal while the latter boasts an "epic rock opera soundtrack".
The initial release will be available on PC only while consoles will get their turn in 2021.
