If you've been playing Diablo 3, you probably know how seasonal resets work and the news that you'll have to create a new character to participate in Diablo 4's seasonal content probably doesn't come as a surprise.
However, since Diablo 4 attracted a lot of newcomers to the franchise and this unique action RPG genre, many players were disappointed to hear that once Season 1 arrives their current character will be pretty much useless since it can't participate in new seasonal content.
In the latest update on their blog, Blizzard have explained why they opted for such a decision, which is proving to be quite divisive within the community.
Basically, Blizzard say that Diablo 4 seasonal resets allows them to create new fun themes without needing to worry about balancing the new content with mechanics from previous seasons.
"Because Seasons reset, we can create crazy, fun Season themes in a vacuum without needing to worry about balancing it with the mechanics introduced in past or future Seasons—we start from a strong Eternal Realm baseline and build on top of it," Blizzard revealed.
The devs added that players should be encouraged to try different classes and builds when the new season arrives as it's all about exploring new ways to play when the fresh Season arrives.
Blizzard's explanation certainly makes sense but you can bet that there will be a lot of players who will still criticise this approach and would rather play the new seasonal content with their current character.
Unfortunately for them, that won't be happening as Blizzard were pretty clear that they don't have plans to change this approach anytime soon.
