Diablo 4 will feature ray-tracing but not on release, Blizzard announced recently. Ray-tracing will be eventually added to the game sometime after launch.
Blizzard have been sharing a bunch of new details about their highly anticipated action RPG Diablo 4 in the recent Developer Update live streams, where they talked about the upcoming open beta and PC system requirements among other things.
When mentioning the system specs for PCs, the devs also touched upon ray-tracing, confirming that Diablo 4 will have this increasingly popular graphics tech but not on launch. Developers confirmed that the plan is to add ray tracing sometime after release.
"During both the Open Beta and at launch, Diablo IV will not support ray tracing, but this is a feature we plan to add sometime after launch," the devs said in the official blog post.
Sadly, we don't know what kind of ray tracing Blizzard plan to implement in Diablo 4. Ray tracing features can include shadows, global illumination, reflections, ambient occlusion and more. We doubt Blizzard will go for the full package due to the game's isometric nature which may not need all of these techniques.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what kind of ray tracing we'll get in Diablo 4 as the game will surely look even prettier with such additions.
Diablo 4 is officially launching on June 2, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 , Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S . For more details about the game, check out everything you need to know about the open beta, strongholds and other exciting Diablo 4 features.
