Larian Studios announced a release date change that is likely to put smiles on many faces.

Larian Studios changed the release date for Baldur's Gate 3 to August 3, 2023, for PC and September 6 for PlayStation 5.

This means the PC release date was moved up almost one month as it was previously supposed to launch on August 31 and it appears the decision was made in order to avoid competing with Starfield at launch.

With that in mind, Larian also announced the classes, subclasses and companions that will be available at launch.

Larian noted that the cutscene length in BG3 exceeds that of The Lords of the Rings trilogy, multiplied by three. It doesn't mean you will embark on an adventure of ungodly lengths since the game is heavy on player choice, meaning you are unlikely to see all or even most of the story and dialogue content within a single playthrough.
