Atlas has been delayed, again, but only for two days

Grapeshot Games seemingly can't catch a breath with Atlas as they had to push the game back a bit longer. This time around, it's just two days, so the new Early Access release date is 21 December 2018. Let's hope we get it before Christmas.

Sea of Thieves will have stiff competition in 2019 with Atlas and Skull and Bones just around the corner, but pre-release troubles seem to hint not everything is well on Grapeshot Games' front. Atlas was already and was supposed to enter Early Access on 20 December 2018, but it has been postponed to Friday, 21 December 2018.

Sure enough, the developers are looking to deliver a game that will redefine the standards of modern gaming, as Atlas will apparently support up to 40.000 players on one server at any given time. This will mean large-scale naval battles, something that the previous pirate craze that manifested through Sea of Thieves never had.

Just like ARK: Survival Evolved, that is the previous work of the developers in Grapeshot Games, Atlas will attempt to refresh its respective genre, but it remains to be seen how successful it will turn out. ARK looked promising and still keeps a healthy player base size of between 30.000 and 50.000 average concurrent players each month.

Customisation and player builds will seemingly be rather deep, which is something Sea of Thieves lacked and received a lot of flak for. Not all of the features may be implemented at launch, but Grapeshot certainly don't shy away from big promises - Atlas apparently even features an aging system that will let player characters either die of old age or find a fountain of youth to renew themselves.

Whatever turns out to be the reason for the delays, it is really not that surprising, considering the scale and sheer amount of features Grapeshot are promising. It only remains to be seen whether they will be able to deliver all of them, and how Atlas will perform in the future. The game did take Twitch by storm, after all.
