Assassin's Creed series is seeking to return to its root, with Mirage just around the corner doing exactly that.
Meanwhile, the fans' hopes are high for Project Red, which is set in feudal Japan as they hope to finally get to play a samurai or ninja in the Assassins' order.
Thanks to Ubisoft being a leaky tub, we now know that both of those options should be available.
According to Tom Henderson, an insider with a long and reliable track record, Assassin's Creed Red may be aiming for a 2024 launch as it is currently fully playable with the first details officially arriving in the early months of the year.
Players will be able to choose between two protagonists - a male samurai or a female shinobi, which ticks both of the boxes on the fans' wishlist. More importantly, the two will have distinct playstyles, one being more prepared for open combat and the other looking to hide in shadows. That is not just a figure of speech either as shadows will play an important part in sneaking around.
While technically not that innovative, relying on shadows for stealth is a mechanic that Ubisoft games haven't properly utilise since Splinter Cell and it will be good to see it back.
However, that is not the only mechanic that is new to Assassin's Creed series as destructible environments have been mentioned, allowing the players to shape the battlefield to their liking and possibly bonk a few heads with a falling beam or two.
