In a recent interview, Respawn confirmed that Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch will feature cross-play capabilities, but not cross-progression, at least not for the time being.
Speaking to Nintendo Life, Respawn's Chad Grenier confirmed that only one cross is coming to Apex Legends for Switch. However, he did leave a glimmer of hope for the future.
"It is planned, but I think we’re a ways out from being able to offer that. I really want it as a gamer myself, so I hear what our fans are saying and I totally agree with them", he said.
Grenier pointed out that this is a far more complex hurdle to address, as it doesn't solely depend on Respawn and/or their willingness to do so. Namely, there are technical and even legal matters to tend to, which the studio will be attempting to tackle.
"We’re doing work to try to make that happen, it’s a complex challenge of multiple accounts existing for various users that we have to resolve or merge, there are legal and contractual things to navigate with purchasing on other platforms and having those carryover and also some technical challenges. So it’s not something we can just turn on, but we are working towards having it and the team is passionate about delivering it at some point", Grenier said.
Respawn clarified all the details on Apex Legends on Switch, and the battle royale comes with 1280x720 resolution in TV mode, and 1024x576 when in handheld mode, both operating at 30fps. You can learn more about Apex Legends on Switch over in Shepard's report .
