Apex Legends players are putting pressure on Respawn and EA after controversial changes to the game's Battle Pass system were announced. About ten days ago, it was announced that Apex Legends will have a new Battle Pass system starting next season with two inflows of content per season and both of them are paid for and that from now on only real money will be used for purchases, not Apex Coins.
That news didn't sit well with Apex Legends fans, and rightfully so, players expressed their displeasure by "killing" the game with negative reviews on Steam.
In just over a week, over 25,000 negative user reviews for Apex Legends were written. According to user reviews a month ago, Apex belongs to the red category of "convincingly negative" ratings, with 83% of objections and condemnations of the new monetization system for additional content.
There are a few reason for this negative backlash from Apex Legends players. First of all, as we already mentioned, is the increase in price and changes for the game's Battle Pass system.
Furthermore, Respawn has a big problem with cheaters, it seems like they don't have the solution for them. The cheaters are rarely getting banned, and that ruins the experience for players that are trying to play fair.
Also, the server issues are always there, as the players are experiencing frequent packet loss, game crashes, registration and logging issues etc. A lot of the players are leaving the game because of these mentioned issues, and the developers are still remaining silent.
It will be interesting to see if Electronic Arts will back down after this kind of player review and give up on implementing the new Battle Pass system. So far, they haven't announced anything about it.
The last time negative reviews on Steam had an effect was earlier this year in the case of Helldivers 2, when Sony backed off from introducing a mandatory PSN account to play the game on PC after backlash from players.
