According to the latest reports, Amazon will today officially announce that they have put a formal offer to acquire Electronic Arts, the creators of FIFA, Madden, Need for Speed and other iconic franchises.
Amazon are set to acquire Redwood City-based developer and publisher Electronic Arts (EA) , who are known as one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, with franchises like Apex Legends , Battlefield , Need for Speed , Madden and more.
This is according to GLHF via USAToday , who claim that Amazon will announce today that they have put in a formal offer to acquire EA.
Over the last couple of months, there have been some rumblings about the potential EA acquisition with Apple, Disney and Amazon being listed as interested parties.
However, according to CNBC , Amazon won't be bidding for EA today so it's entirely possible that there is no truth in the rumour. For this reason, we suggest you simply wait for the official confirmation from Amazon or EA.
If the rumour is indeed true and Amazon are set to acquire EA, it will be interesting to see what type of approach Amazon take with the publisher. Microsoft are known for their "hands-off" approach, leaving game devs to make games that they want to make.
We assume Amazon will control EA studios but not to the point where they would force the devs to make the games they don't want to make.
