Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced two Tomb Raider games at The Game Awards: Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next major entry set in Northern India launching 2027, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagined version of the 1996 debut arriving 2026. Both feature actress Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft.

Crystal Dynamics surprised no one at The Game Awards (since both games unfortunately leaked ahead of the reveal) with dual Tomb Raider announcements: Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the ambitious next chapter set in Northern India, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a fully reimagined version of Lara Croft's 1996 debut. Both games launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam with actress Alix Wilton Regan voicing gaming's iconic archaeologist.

Tomb Raider: Catalyst explores Northern India in 2027

Catalyst follows Lara Croft through Northern India following a mythical cataclysm that unleashed ancient secrets and awakened mysterious guardian forces. When notorious treasure hunters descend on the region, Lara races to uncover buried truths and prevent catastrophe whilst deciding who to trust among rivals and allies.

The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and promises the largest Tomb Raider world yet, featuring lost tombs packed with intricate puzzles, richly customised adventure tech, a story of trust and betrayal and a little bit of that good old Unreal stuttering.

It will be interesting to see how all this turns out and if Catalyst will be more akin to older Tomb Raider games with challening and interesting puzzles or Uncharted-like with action packed sequences.

Legacy of Atlantis reimagines 1996 classic for 2026

Crystal Dynamics have partnered with Flying Wild Hog for Legacy of Atlantis, to modernise Lara's genre-defining debut from 1996. The remake too is built on Unreal Engine 5 and promises moder design with new surprises whilst honouring the original's spirit and atmosphere.

"Crafting a modern reimagining of Lara's original adventure is a responsibility we embrace with passion and absolute focus," said Michał Szustak, CEO of Flying Wild Hog. The developer previously created Shadow Warrior and Trek to Yomi, demonstrating action game competence though nothing approaching Tomb Raider's puzzle-platforming legacy.

Alix Wilton Regan voices Lara Croft

Both games feature acclaimed actress Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft, replacing previous voice actors from the reboot trilogy. Wilton Regan is known for performances in Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cyberpunk 2077, and Mass Effect 3.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches 2026, followed by Tomb Raider: Catalyst in 2027.
