Emergent Opportunities I is one of Marathon's more straightforward Standard contracts, but only if you know what a TAD actually looks like. Spoiler: it's not what you'd expect.

The Emergent Opportunities I contract in Marathon has two objectives: activate a Target Acquisition Device (TAD) and defeat 10 UESC robots. The robot kills will come naturally as you play, but the TAD is the one that'll stump you if you've never encountered one before - they're easy to walk straight past without realising what they are.

What Is a TAD?

According to the contract briefing, TADs temporarily mark hostiles and can be found at major regions throughout a zone. In practice, they look like a chunky orange box (yellow on the backside) mounted on a red and black pole, with a blue light on top. They're planted out in the open rather than tucked inside buildings, so once you know what you're scanning for, you'll spot them without much bother.

How to Complete It

TADs are dotted across the major landmarks on the Perimeter map - Station, Overflow, South Relay, and so on - so you don't need to go out of your way to find one. Simply head to any major area, locate the orange device, walk up to it, and interact with it to activate it. That's your first objective ticked off.

From there, the second objective takes care of itself. UESC robots are scattered throughout every zone, so just play aggressively, and you'll rack up the 10 kills you need without any dedicated grinding. Clearing the area around the TAD itself will likely get you halfway there on its own.

Quick Tip: This contract has unlimited run attempts and doesn't need to be completed in a single run, so there's no pressure. Focus on the TAD first, then mop up the UESC kills at your own pace.
