Staying well-hydrated is one of the main goals while roaming the desert of Arrakis in Dune: Awakening. Here are the several ways to keep your character well hydrated and also alive in this game.

Since Dune: Awakening, the newest survivor from Funcom, is a game set in the desert area, staying well-hydrated will become the top priority for you and will most certainly mean the difference between life and death all the time. The more water you carry around will usually mean the more time you'll be able to spend outside gathering resources and doing the stuff the game tells you to do.

Water is not the resource you'll come across easily in Dune: Awakening, so to keep your character hydrated, prepare for some hard work because in the desert of Arrakis, the water is the most valuable treasure you'll need to learn to keep very close to you if you want to survive these harsh conditions.

In this guide, we will show you several ways to keep your character hydrated and with water reserves ready for drinking before the thirst takes its toll completely.

Five ways to keep your character hydrated even very early in the game

  Drink Dew

This is the most primitive way of hydrating in Dune: Awakening and will let you drink just enough to scrape by, or at least until you find a real water resource. Dew can fill up only one part of your hydration bar, and drinking it can make your character sick, so you must not rely on this resource alone, except in emergencies. One more important thing about dew is that it can only be found during nighttime, so during the day, this method of drinking is not an option.

  Blood Purifier

The second way of hydrating, which is, by the way, very efficient, is a device called a blood purifier. This device can be made inside your base using some basic materials and will be available during the tutorial phase of the game.

To use the blood purifier, you'll have to craft a blood extractor and some blood bags first, then once you kill enemies, you'll have to equip it and extract the blood from their bodies. Once you have enough blood, simply deposit it inside the blood purifier and let the magic happen. After some time, you'll be able either to drink water directly from the purifier or to transfer it to a tank called Literjon.

A blood purifier can turn blood into water and store water inside as well, and later in the game, you'll get the option to make a cistern, which will ease up this water-collecting process.

  Fill Up The Literjon

A literjon is a canister that can be produced after acquiring a permit. This can actually be done very early in the game, once you reach Griffin's Reach Outpost during the tutorial section. Buying this literjon, called Hajra Literjon MK1, is a part of the mission, so it is kind of unmissable. Once you have it produced, visit the blood purifier every now and then and extract water from there into it; it will keep you very well-hydrated for a long time since it features six tanks, and each tank refills one of the three hydration bars.

  Use a Stillsuit

The stillsuit is the outfit you'll be able to produce during the tutorial, and those outfits, apart from other important functions, have hidden tanks that can distil water inside them. Those suits can be very useful for hydration, but some other functions may make you reconsider your decision to wear them because this water-storing function and the amount of water they can actually store won't compensate enough for some other pros the other suits have.

In any case, these suits do have water containers in them, and this guide isn't about the quality of suits but about the ways of hydrating in this game.

Drink Blood or the Other People's Water

As gross as it might sound, drinking blood is a thing in Dune: Awakening, and you should do this only in a state of the utmost emergency (morally wrong and not good for your health, we guess). Drinking blood will hydrate you a bit, but even the game warns you not to make a habit out of it for the obvious reasons.

Apart from that, you can always drink water the other people gathered, even if theft is a crime, but, hey, this is a survival game after all; leave morals for some other occasions. The world of Dune: Awakening is full of many settlements, caves and other locations where enemies and friends alike dwell, and once you find yourself in such locations, look for the devices that are set to gather water, and if you're in need, drink from them. Keep in mind, however, that this water can only be drunk but not stored in your literjon.

  Use the Dew Reaper Tool

A dew reaper tool will allow you to harvest water from dew, and this method will be a more peaceful one than the one including killing enemies and extracting their blood. Using a dew reaper, you'll be able to store water directly into your literjon, and if you have more than one literjon, you'll be able to fill them up very easily and then transfer the water to your camp, either inside the cistern or the blood purifier.

The only downside of this method is that the dew reaper requires some hard-to-get materials to research and produce. To research a dew reaper, you'll need ten iron ingots (obtainable after the initial zone), EMF generators and silicone blocks. Those materials are obtainable later, so to gather water using this method, you'll need to wait a bit, but the waiting will pay off because once you get this tool, you'll come across water very easily, even if it will be possible only during the nighttime.

One more thing about water in this game that is very important is that it is not used only for drinking but for crafting as well, especially later in the game when crafting will require some rarer materials. In essence, those five methods will let you be hydrated in Dune: Awakening, even very early in the game, so be sure to include each one of them in your arsenal because, without water, you'll perish very quickly in this game.
