Even though survival games usually don't rely on combat too much, Dune: Awakening is quite different in this regard because this survival game from Funcom has a quite developed combat system full of different weapons to use and different strategies to employ if you want to survive the harsh environments of the Arrakis desert.
From the very beginning, the game will teach you some fighting basics, but if you're not careful, you'll meet your demise more often and more frequently than you would like.
If you want to avoid such a fate and become a combat expert, even early in the game, here are some tips and strategies on how to approach the combat in Dune: Awakening and how to survive almost every encounter the game throws your way.
Dune: Awakening combat tips and strategies
There are basically two types of combat encounters in Dune: Awakening: the melee combat and the firearms combat, and to survive in this game, you'll have to be able to recognise which enemy must be fought using which strategy.
Once you get close to the enemies, they will start attacking you, and if an enemy is armed with a melee weapon, they will charge towards you, and if they are armed with a firearm, they'll start shooting. If you let the enemies overwhelm you, no matter how good your weapons are and how well you're equipped, you'll be beaten before you know it.
To avoid this, try to isolate enemies and pick them out one by one. Shoot a couple of rounds and provoke the enemies then fall back and wait for them to come to you. If the enemy is a melee combatant, try to back out until you cannot be shot by the ranged ones and use the melee weapons to overcome him.
Once he attacks, parry him (the parry window is very generous) and then charge attack to quickly dispose of him. Use cover to pick shooters one by one, and if you use this strategy, you'll get through most of the encounters without problems.
Remember, whatever you do, never charge towards a group of enemies, but instead, use this luring strategy and take notice of the type of enemy. Against melee combatants use melee weapons, and against shooters use firearms and you'll win every encounter.
